Jordan and Matt’s Magical Mountain Colorado Wedding
Let’s just say this wedding was so much more to me than some pretty pictures of a cool couple in the mountains. This particular September wedding was back in 2016. I had gone to high school with Jordan and Matt, and Jordan and I kept in touch via Facebook/Instagram. About 2 weeks before her wedding day, I got a Facebook message from Jordan asking how to get me up there for her wedding because her photographer/friend had cancelled on her last minute!
Funny thing is, if you know me you know I am a HUGE believer in fate and allowing the universe to do it’s thang. During this time, I had just quit my old 9-5 job, and officially decided to go full time with photography. I didn’t have any regular clients really, and was pretty lost after just becoming a full time freelancer for the first time. I was hustling to get weddings booked for the future and marketing my you-know-what off. So, I had that week free, found flights that were pretty cheap, we worked it out and I made it up there! I ADORE Colorado, and travel there a few times a year for vacations, family time, and weddings. Knowing my love for Colorado and the mountains, I knew these photos were going to be pure awesomeness. And the wedding was just that. I fell in love with their small town in the mountains. The ceremony itself was in an amazing spot, snug in between the Rocky Mountains. Which meant, no phone service, only wifi here and there. It was awesome and just what I needed, time to disconnect and be at one making art, completly in my element.
I ended up photographing Jordan’s bridal photos, some boudoir bridals, the rehearsal, and of course the ceremony and all of the wedding day. Jordan and Matt’s families made me feel like family, and I had such a blast being able to document these fun days they had together with family and friends from all over the states! Jordan and Matt’s chemistry and laid back attitude made the whole thing a breeze. They have so much fun together and are literally perfect for each other. I love that I got to build a friendship with Jordan and I get to keep up with their love story on social media.
This was probably my second solo trip in my life ever. I knew I needed that trip for a reason. I mean, it had worked out perfectly time wise and the images I created are some of my all time favorite photos I have ever taken. This wedding/ work trip was life changing for me. I realized wedding/portrait photography is my true passion, this is what makes my heart truly happy. You know that tingly feeling when you go down a big hill going fast in the car, yep thats what I get when photographing weddings and there is magic in the air. And that is how I knew, this is my career, how I pay my bills, my heart and soul, my everything. I love being able to be a fly on the wall for candid moments, or the girl gathering up the whole fam for a generation photo, because when else are you going to be able to see everyone again. It made me have a love and appreciation for nature, and to use the light and environment to my advantage in any situation, even a blank wall (turn it into a diy photo booth if you want, the possibilities are endless!). I can’t wait to book more weddings in Colorado for 2019 and 2020! I also travel to other states, so if you are looking for a destination wedding photographer or want to adventure and elope somewhere, I am down for an adventure, always!
I encourage everyone to take the spontaneous trips and live life to the fullest. You never know when that one leap of faith is going to pay off. It is in those magical moments, where we find we are always on the right path.
